Category Risk · Investor Edition
What market interpretation are we about to fund?
Capital does not choose how a market reads a company. It funds the execution that repeats one reading until that reading hardens.
This briefing sets out how Category Risk forms, where it stops being a marketing question and becomes a capital question, and what leadership can settle before the next round of spend goes behind it.
Diligence tests the plan. It rarely tests the interpretation the plan assumes.
Investment cases are examined closely: the model, the pipeline, the team, the technology, the market size. What is examined less often is the question underneath all of them: what the market currently believes this company is, and whether leadership has actually chosen that answer.
When the answer has not been chosen, execution still proceeds. Sales explains the company one way because it opens conversations. Partners translate it another way. Buyers compare it against whichever alternatives the description brings to mind.
Capital accelerates all of it at once.
The interpretation the market ends up holding is then a consequence of spend, not of a decision.
Two pages. Written for the people who have to ask the question before the money moves.
The briefing sets out how Category Risk forms inside a capable company, why it is invisible while execution is still working, and the point at which it becomes a capital question rather than a messaging one.
It is written for investors, boards and the leadership teams answering to them, and it is short enough to read before a meeting rather than after it.
It sets out a question and the reasoning behind it. It does not diagnose a particular company, and it is not investment advice.
Read it, or take it into the meeting.
The briefing opens in the browser and can be downloaded. Nothing is gated, and there is no form.
A Dutch edition is also published.
English is the source edition. The Dutch edition carries the same argument, in the same two pages.
If the question lands, there is a bounded way to answer it.
The Category Risk Scan is the diagnostic that settles what leadership has actually decided, and what evidence would challenge it. Investors and boards can read how Venturoxx works with them upstream of that.
Reference cases showing how the decision was reached in practice are available on request.
Category first. GTM second. Execution third.
